Katsura Takizawa is a Japanese artist who has been based in London for some time. She was born in Japan and she has been making art artworks from the age of nine.
As a teenager she was a founder member of the Imaginary Museum of Contemporary Art. She studied abroad in England after she finishing high school in Japan, and graduated from the Chelsea School of Art and Design with a BA. She subsequently graduated from the Slade school of Fine Art (UCL) with an MFA.
The work reflects her position existence as a Japanese artist who is based in England. It is in a way a reflection of her thoughts about her home country from afar, mirroring her obsession with images of the human figure and her research into Japanese culture and Shintoism, one of the oldest folk religions and basically a form of nature worship.
Her work shifts between painting, performance and sculpture. She exhibits her works in gallery and public spaces.
